How to Crawl in Minecraft with the Crawl on Demand Mod

Crawling Made Simple

The Crawl on Demand Mod removes the need for trapdoors, water, or other block tricks to get your character into a crawling position. Instead, it adds a dedicated hotkey that toggles you between standing and crawling instantly.

By default, that key is Left Alt. Press it once and your character drops into a prone crawl; press it again to stand back up. If Left Alt conflicts with another mod or just does not suit you, you can rebind it under Options → Controls → Key Binds, where the mod adds its own entry.

Once crawling, you can move through gaps that are only one block high, which makes the mod handy for squeezing through tight tunnels, slipping under obstacles, or staying low during roleplay as a spy or soldier. It works in both singleplayer and multiplayer, including on servers, and is compatible with most other mods.
