Craft Your First Elytra

Gathering Materials

Before you can craft an elytra, you'll need to collect the required crafting materials. The recipe is designed to be achievable without defeating the Ender Dragon, making early-game flight possible. Gather the materials specified in your data pack's crafting recipe—these typically include common resources found throughout the Overworld and Nether.

Using the Crafting Table

Once you've collected all necessary materials, open your crafting table and arrange them according to the elytra recipe. The layout will be displayed in your crafting grid. Craft the elytra just as you would any other item. When complete, the elytra will appear in the output slot.

Equipping and Flying

Place the crafted elytra in your chestplate armor slot. Climb to a high location, jump, and press your jump key again mid-air to deploy your wings. You'll begin gliding downward—use fireworks rockets to propel yourself upward and maintain altitude. Practice controlling your descent and turns before attempting long-distance flights.

With your new elytra equipped, the skies are now open to exploration at any point in your playthrough.
