Gather Materials for Your First Bedrock Block
What You'll Need
Crafting bedrock requires four different material types. Start by collecting:
- 2 lava buckets – Find lava in the Nether or deep underground. Use an empty bucket on a lava source block.
- 2 water buckets – Collect from any water source using an empty bucket.
- 4 obsidian – Mine obsidian where lava meets water, or create it deliberately by pouring lava over water. Use a diamond or netherite pickaxe.
- 1 Netherite ingot – Smelt ancient debris (found in the Nether) in a furnace or blast furnace to get netherite scrap, then combine scrap with gold ingots at a smithing table.
Collection Tips
The most time-consuming materials are usually netherite and obsidian. Mine obsidian in bulk if you plan to craft multiple bedrock blocks. For netherite, strip-mine in the Nether between Y-levels 8–22 to find ancient debris efficiently.
Keep your buckets organized in your inventory. Once you have all four material types, you're ready to craft.
