Cook Your Food Mod: How Food Poisoning Works

Raw Food Now Has Consequences

Cook Your Food Mod adds a simple but meaningful penalty for eating uncooked food. Instead of the inconsistent vanilla behavior where some raw items do nothing and others only nibble at your hunger, this mod makes raw food actively discourage you.

When you eat an uncooked item, you can be hit with a combination of negative effects lasting around 60 seconds. These include slowness, weakness, nausea, and in some cases poison. The exact effects depend on what you ate, so different raw foods carry different risks.

This is not designed to kill you. The point is inconvenience: slowness and mining fatigue make raw food a real waste of time, motivating you to cook your meat before eating it.

Zombie flesh is treated as a particularly bad idea. Eating it will likely make your situation much worse, though there is a small chance you resist the effects entirely.

Safe raw foods like apples and carrots are unaffected and remain fine to eat.
