Switch Between Main Gameplay and GUI Layers

Understanding the GUI Layer

The GUI layer automatically activates when you open menus, inventories, or mod screens. It remaps your controller buttons for navigation instead of gameplay, so you can browse menus without accidentally attacking or placing blocks.

1. Open controller settings and navigate to Layers or GUI Settings

2. Review the default GUI layer mappings (usually: directional buttons for navigation, face buttons for selection)

3. Customize button functions if needed—for example, map a button to close the current screen

4. Open your inventory or a mod menu in-game

5. Notice your controller buttons now navigate menus instead of performing gameplay actions

6. Close the menu and confirm gameplay controls return to normal

Customization Tips

The GUI layer should feel intuitive for menu navigation. Map directional inputs to move selection, confirm buttons for clicking, and a cancel button for closing screens. If you use radial menus, they typically work in both layers. Test your GUI mappings with different mod screens to ensure consistency across your modpack.
