Resetting a Config to Defaults or Recovering a Broken Config

Resetting Through the GUI

Most Configuration API screens include a reset action in the Footer. Depending on the mod, this can reset a single entry, a whole subcategory, or the entire config. Hover the button to see its scope before clicking, then save.

If you only want to undo one change, edit that single entry back to its default. The tooltip or the entry's default value usually tells you what the original was.

Recovering a Corrupted File

If a config file becomes malformed — a stray comma in JSON, bad indentation in YAML, a missing = in Properties — the mod may fail to read it. Symptoms include options reverting, the config screen appearing empty, or errors in the log.

To recover:

1. Close the game.

2. Find the broken config file.

3. Either delete it or rename it to keep a backup.

4. Launch the game. The mod regenerates a fresh file with default values.

Deleting the file loses your custom settings, so back it up first if you want to salvage individual values by hand.

Avoiding Future Breakage

Make your edits through the in-game screen when possible, since it validates input. When hand-editing, change one thing at a time and test, so you can tell which edit caused a problem.
