Dye a Book to Change Its Color

Basic Dyeing Process

Coloring a book is straightforward and works just like dyeing leather armor. You'll need a book and any dye color available in Minecraft.

1. Open your crafting grid (2×2 inventory crafting or a crafting table)

2. Place your book in one slot

3. Place a dye of your chosen color in another slot

4. Retrieve your newly colored book from the output

Color Results

The dye will tint the leather cover of the book. The color appears immediately in your inventory, in item frames, and anywhere else the book is displayed. You can dye the same book multiple times with different dyes to change its color whenever you want—simply repeat the process with a new dye.

Tips

Any dye color works, including rare dyes like lapis lazuli (blue) or cocoa beans (brown). Experiment with different colors to organize your books by category or create a color-coded library system.
