How to Find Items in Nearby Chests with /cfinditem

What the command does

/cfinditem scans containers around you and reports which ones hold a given item. It is client-side, so it only sees containers the client already knows about (loaded chunks, containers you have opened or that are otherwise synced). It is the fastest way to answer "where did I put my diamonds?" without opening every chest in your base.

Step by step

1. Stand near the area you want to search. The scan radius is limited, so move around your base and run it again if you get no results.

2. Type /cfinditem <item> using the item's registry name or the name the command suggests. Start typing and let the autocomplete list guide you.

3. Read the chat output. Each hit lists the coordinates of a container and the slot the item sits in.

4. Walk to the coordinates and open that container. If you have a waypoint or minimap mod, copy the coordinates into it.

Tips

  • Run it once per room in a large base rather than expecting one scan to cover everything.
  • If a chest was never opened this session, its contents may not be known to the client, so open it once and re-run the search.
  • Combine with /cfindblock when you are looking for the container block itself rather than its contents.
