How to Find and Open Stronghold Vaults

Locating Vault Blocks

Vault blocks are hidden throughout the revamped stronghold chambers, particularly in Storage rooms and reward areas. Look for distinctive locked block textures that stand out from regular stone architecture. They're often placed in alcoves, behind spawner rooms, or in secure vault chambers.

Unlocking with Keys

You'll need either a Stronghold Key or Dragon Key to open vaults—the key type determines what rewards you access. Stronghold Keys unlock basic equipment vaults scattered throughout the fortress, while Dragon Keys open premium vaults containing rare items like Dragon's Breath and Phantom Membranes.

Obtaining Keys

Stronghold Keys drop from mob spawners and elite enemies patrolling the barracks and jail areas. Dragon Keys are rarer and typically found in high-difficulty trial chambers or as rewards from defeating major spawner waves. Search thoroughly in crypts and multi-level library sections.

Vault Contents

Expect combat gear, enchanted tools, and preparation items for the End fight. Dragon's Breath and Phantom Membranes are particularly valuable for crafting potions and end-game equipment before facing the dragon.
