Optimizing Performance on Older Computers
Identify Performance Bottlenecks
Run the mod and monitor your frame rate in different environments—forests, open plains, and near water. Note where performance dips most significantly.
Reduce Shader Intensity
In shader options, lower these settings to improve frame rate:
- Shadow Distance: Reduce to render shadows only near your character
- Shadow Softness: Lower blur values decrease processing overhead
- Reflection Quality: Use lower presets for water reflections
- Lighting Detail: Some shaders offer simplified lighting modes
Disable Expensive Features
Look for toggles to disable:
- Ambient Occlusion (darkening in crevices)
- Volumetric lighting (light rays through fog)
- Advanced water effects
Test Incrementally
Change one setting at a time and play for a few minutes to measure the impact. This helps you find the sweet spot where the world still looks cinematic but runs smoothly.
Use Lower Render Distance if Needed
If shader settings alone don't help, reducing your render distance in Video Settings can significantly improve performance while keeping the shader's visual style intact.
