How to Use Chisel Variants in Builds

Mixing Variants for Detail

One of the main reasons to use the Chisel is to break up large flat surfaces. Instead of a wall of identical stone bricks, you can alternate between several chiseled variants to create texture and depth. Carve a few stacks of the same base block into different variants, then place them in a repeating or random pattern.

Borders and Trim

Use a distinct variant as a border or trim around a build. For example, carve a smooth or ornate variant and run it along the edges of a floor or the base of a wall. Because all variants share the same base block, they blend naturally while still standing out.

Floors, Paths, and Roofs

Floors benefit greatly from variant mixing — a checkerboard or scattered pattern of two or three variants looks far more interesting than a single texture. The same applies to paths and roofs. Keep a chest of pre-carved variants near your build site so you can place them without stopping to chisel each block individually.

Consistency Matters

Pick a small palette of variants per build and stick to it. Too many different textures in one area can look noisy. Two to four variants per surface is usually enough to add interest without overwhelming the eye.
