Tour the Reactor Building Exterior and Perimeter
Starting Your Perimeter Walk
Begin at the main facility entrance and walk the outer grounds. The massive exterior walls of the reactor buildings dominate the landscape. These walls are built to 1:1 scale, so walking their full length gives you a sense of the enormous industrial footprint.
Key Structures to Observe
As you circle the facility, note the different building heights and architectural styles. The reactor containment structures are distinctly taller and more heavily constructed than administrative areas. Look for ventilation stacks, external piping, and utility corridors that connect different sections.
Surrounding Infrastructure
The grounds include support buildings, storage areas, and access roads typical of a major Soviet power station. Walk beyond the main reactor complex to see the full operational landscape. This gives context for how the facility functioned as an integrated industrial complex.
Photography Opportunities
The exterior provides dramatic angles and scale comparisons. Stand at various distances to capture both detail and the overwhelming size of individual structures.
