Navigate the Reactor Control Room
Finding the Control Room
The main control room is located in the central administrative building. Enter through the main facility entrance and follow the corridor signs or look for the largest interior structure. The control room sits at the heart of the power station complex.
What to Inspect
Once inside, you'll find detailed recreations of the control panels, instrument displays, and operator stations as they existed in early 1984. Walk around the perimeter to see all angles of the massive control console. Look up to observe the ceiling infrastructure and lighting systems typical of Soviet industrial design.
Take time to examine individual panels and gauges—each represents real monitoring equipment that operators used. The layout shows how information flowed through the station. Stand at the main operator position to understand the sightlines and workflow.
Photography Tips
The control room has excellent lighting for screenshots. Position yourself at different heights and angles to capture the scale and detail. Early morning or late afternoon provides atmospheric shadows that enhance the historic industrial feel.
