How to Turn a Villager into a Cook in Chef's Delight
Getting a Cook
A Cook is the entry-level Chef's Delight profession. It trades simple prepared foods, making it a good first step before upgrading a villager to a Chef.
Steps
1. Craft or obtain a Skillet. This is the workstation block tied to the Cook profession.
2. Find a villager that does not already have a profession. Unemployed villagers wear plain robes and have no badge over their head.
3. Place the Skillet down on the ground near the villager.
4. When they reach it, green particles will appear and they will take on the Cook profession, gaining a new outfit and a trade badge.
5. Right-click the Cook to open the trade menu and browse their food offers. Trades refresh as normal villager trades do — restock by letting them work at the Skillet.
Tips
- Keep the Skillet accessible. If you block it off or remove it, the Cook will lose their profession over time.
- Cooks are a stepping stone: once you have a Cooking Pot, you can convert an unemployed villager into a Chef instead for higher-tier trades.
- Protect your Cook from zombies and raids, since losing them means losing the trades you have unlocked.
