Set Up Custom Chat Emojis

Understanding Emoji Tokens

Chat Upgrade Mod displays custom emojis using a simple token format. Emojis are square images mapped through custom data files, allowing you to reference them by name rather than pasting images repeatedly.

Creating Your Emoji Set

1. Prepare square image files (png, jpg, webp, or gif work best)

2. Store them in your mod's configuration folder under a designated emojis directory

3. Create or edit the emoji mapping file to link token names to image filenames

4. Each token follows a simple format: [emoji:name] in chat messages

5. Reload the mod or restart your game to apply changes

Using Emojis in Messages

Once configured, type emoji tokens directly into chat:

  • Type [emoji:smile] to display your custom smile emoji
  • Type [emoji:heart] to show a heart emoji
  • Combine tokens with regular text: Hello [emoji:wave] everyone!"

All connected players will see the rendered emoji images inline with your message text, maintaining sharp quality at any GUI scale.

Troubleshooting

If emojis don't appear, verify the mapping file syntax and ensure image files exist in the correct folder path.
