How to Stop Duplicate Message Spam with the Counter
On busy servers the same line gets repeated over and over. Chat Patches collapses those repeats so your chat stays readable.
What the Counter Does
When identical messages arrive one after another, the mod doesn't print a fresh line each time. Instead it shows the message once and adds a counter indicating how many times in a row it has appeared. The counter updates as more duplicates come in, so you see a single entry with a tally rather than a wall of text.
Configuring It
Open the Chat Patches config and find the section dealing with duplicate messages. There you can toggle the feature on or off and control how it behaves. If you'd rather see every message individually, disable it. If you want it more aggressive, check the options for how it decides two messages are the same.
When It Helps
This is most useful during spammy moments — repeated death messages, a stuck command loop, or a bot echoing the same line. The counter keeps the chat tidy without hiding that the spam is happening, so you still notice when something is flooding.
Note
The counter only groups consecutive duplicates. If a different message appears in between, the count resets and a new entry begins.
