Replacing Iron Buckets With Ceramic Ones Early Game
Why Bother
Iron is scarce in the first days of a world. Ceramic buckets let you move water and lava without spending three iron ingots per bucket. If you have clay nearby, you can outfit yourself with several buckets before you ever find iron.
Step-by-Step Swap
1. Gather clay from riverbeds or shallow water.
2. Craft unfired clay buckets using the bucket-shaped recipe.
3. Smelt them in a furnace to get working ceramic buckets.
4. Use them exactly as you would iron buckets for water and lava.
When to Still Use Iron
Ceramic buckets are not a strict upgrade — they are a cheaper alternative. If you need many buckets for automation or you are working with mods that require iron buckets specifically, keep some iron ones around. For casual fluid hauling, ceramic is fine.
Managing Breakage
Assume buckets can be lost. Keep a small stock of fired spares in a chest near your furnace so a broken bucket does not stall a project. This is the same habit you would use with any disposable tool.
