How to Fix Crashes From Custom Block Update Suppressors

What update suppression does

Update suppression is a technical trick where players prevent block updates from propagating, often to build compact contraptions. Some custom implementations of this trick can crash the server or client. Carpet AMS Addition includes a fix for that, and you can force it on.

Forcing the crash fix

1. Ensure you have operator or console access.

2. Run /amsUpdateSuppressionCrashFixForceMode true to force the crash fix to stay active whenever the custom block update suppressor is in use.

3. Run /amsUpdateSuppressionCrashFixForceMode false to return to the default behavior.

4. Check the command feedback to verify the new state.

When you'd use this

  • If your server has players who build update-suppression contraptions and you keep seeing crashes tied to them, forcing the fix keeps the server stable without banning the technique.
  • If you are debugging a specific contraption and want to see the raw behavior, you can turn the force mode off temporarily.

Cautions

  • Forcing the fix may change how certain contraptions behave, so test your builds after enabling it.
  • This setting is meant for the custom block update suppressor path in this mod, not for every possible suppression method.
  • Document the change for your staff so nobody is confused when a contraption suddenly behaves differently.
