Distinguish Real Leaks from False Positives

Understanding CTL's Filtering

All The Leaks (ATL) reports every retained object, but many aren't actual problems. Calm The Leaks filters these false alarms so you can focus on genuine issues.

Common False Positives CTL Suppresses:

  • Stable chunk retention: Chunks held in memory by the render distance or chunk loader are normal and don't grow over time
  • Startup noise: Memory spikes during world load that stabilize after a few minutes
  • Caching systems: Some mods intentionally retain data for performance; CTL recognizes these patterns

How to Verify

1. Run /ctl status to see the overall leak summary

2. Check /ctl leaks and note the confidence level for each leak

3. Low-confidence leaks are likely false positives; ignore them unless they grow rapidly

4. Monitor the same leak over time—if memory usage plateaus, it's probably not a leak

5. High-confidence leaks with upward trends are real problems requiring action

CTL's filtering means you can trust the leaks it reports as genuine threats to your server's stability.
