Understanding Why Caelus API Shows Up in Your Mod List at All

Many players install a modpack, see Caelus API in the mod list, and wonder what it does or whether they can remove it. Here is the practical answer.

It Is a Dependency

Caelus is a library mod. It exists so that multiple mods can share one consistent elytra flight system instead of each one hardcoding its own. If you remove it, every mod that depends on it will break, usually with a crash on startup or with flight items silently ceasing to work. So the rule is simple: leave it installed if anything in your pack lists it as a requirement.

Why It Replaces Vanilla Behavior

Vanilla elytra flight is hardcoded to the elytra item. Caelus abstracts that into a general flight attribute, and then rewires the vanilla elytra to use that same attribute. The result is that vanilla elytra behaves exactly as before, while other mods can grant flight through the same mechanism. You should not notice any difference in normal elytra use.

What You Can Safely Ignore

There is nothing to configure and nothing to activate. No keybinds, no menus, no items. If you are not a mod developer, your only job is to keep it installed and let the mods that need it do their work.
