Enable PBR Textures to Make Blocks Look More Realistic

Understand PBR Support

PBR (Physically Based Rendering) textures add depth and realism to blocks by defining how they reflect light and appear bumpy or smooth. The shader reads these special texture files automatically when enabled.

Activate PBR in Shader Settings

Open your shader options menu and locate the PBR or material rendering toggle. Enable it. This setting works best with texture packs that include PBR data—vanilla textures will still render normally without it.

Use Compatible Texture Packs

For the best results, pair this shader with texture packs that include PBR materials. Many modern packs designed for shaders include:

  • Normal maps (define surface bumps)
  • Specular maps (control shininess)
  • Roughness data (affect how light scatters)

Without a PBR-compatible pack, the feature has minimal visual impact. If PBR causes performance issues, disable it and use a lower shader profile instead. The vanilla style remains intact regardless of your PBR choice.
