Adjust Shadow Quality and Softness
Access Shader Settings
Open the shader options menu by pressing the key bound to shader settings (usually accessed through your graphics menu or a dedicated keybind). Look for the Butter Shaders configuration panel.
Configure Shadow Parameters
Locate the shadow-related sliders, typically labeled as shadow distance, shadow softness, or penumbra size. Increasing softness creates more blurred, realistic shadows at the cost of slight performance impact. Decreasing shadow distance reduces the range at which shadows are rendered, improving performance on lower-end systems.
Test Your Changes
After adjusting settings, observe shadows cast by trees, buildings, and terrain during different times of day. Morning and evening light angles make shadow quality most visible. If you experience frame rate drops, reduce shadow distance or softness incrementally until performance stabilizes.
Fine-Tune for Your System
Start with default settings, then adjust based on your frame rate. High-end systems can maximize both distance and softness for cinematic results. Older computers should prioritize shadow distance reduction over softness to maintain playability while keeping the fantasy aesthetic.
