How to Upgrade Your Building Wand to a Higher Tier
Understanding the Tier System
Building Wands come in material tiers that mirror vanilla tool materials: Wooden, Stone, Copper, Iron, Gold, Diamond, and Netherite, plus a Creative Wand for unlimited use. Higher tiers generally place more blocks per use and have larger block limits, so upgrading is the main way to scale your building speed.
Crafting the Next Tier
Each wand is crafted from its base material plus a wand core or previous wand, depending on the recipe shown in JEI/REI. Open your recipe viewer and search the wand you want. Typical progression:
1. Craft a Wooden Wand first to learn the controls.
2. Gather the material for the next tier (e.g., cobblestone for Stone, iron ingots for Iron).
3. Check JEI for the exact recipe — many tiers require the previous wand plus the new material.
4. Craft the upgrade and test it on a flat area before using it on a real build.
What Changes Between Tiers
- Block limit: Higher tiers allow longer placement lines and larger areas.
- Durability: Better materials last longer before needing repair.
- Modes: Some tiers unlock additional placement modes (horizontal, vertical, cube).
If a wand stops placing, check its durability in the tooltip. Repair it in an anvil with the matching material, or craft a fresh one if it is fully broken.
