Fixing a Building Wand That Won't Place Blocks

Common Causes

If your Building Wand stops working, it is almost always one of: no blocks available, wand out of durability, wrong mode, or a config restriction. Work through these in order.

Step-by-Step Checks

1. Check the tooltip: Hover the wand. If durability is empty, repair it in an anvil with the matching material or craft a new one.

2. Check your blocks: The wand consumes blocks from your hotbar or from a Magic Bag in your inventory. Make sure you actually have the block type selected.

3. Check the mode: Sneak-scroll to cycle modes. Some modes (like cube) may fail if the target area is obstructed.

4. Check the target: Wands will not replace existing blocks unless the mod's config allows it. Aim at empty air adjacent to a solid face.

5. Check the config: Server or client config may limit max blocks per placement or disable certain modes. If you are on a server, ask the admin.

Quick Reset

  • Drop the wand and pick it up again to clear any stuck state.
  • Switch to another item and back.
  • Relog if the issue persists — this clears client-side wand state.

If none of these work, the wand may be from a different mod with a similar name; confirm the item ID in your inventory tooltip.
