Maintain High Frame Rate While Using Shaders

Check Current Performance

Press F3 to open the debug overlay and note your current FPS. This is your baseline. Then open Options → Video Settings → Shaders and confirm Builder's QOL is active.

Disable Non-Essential Effects

Access shader settings and disable visual features you don't need:

  • Advanced water reflections
  • Particle enhancements
  • Bloom or glow effects
  • Any "high-quality" lighting modes

Builder's QOL is lightweight by design, so most players see minimal FPS loss, but older hardware benefits from selective disabling.

Lower Video Settings if Needed

If FPS drops significantly, also adjust vanilla settings:

  • Reduce Render Distance (start at 8–12 chunks)
  • Lower Graphics from Fancy to Fast
  • Disable Smooth Lighting in vanilla options if the shader's version causes lag

Monitor and Retest

Return to your world and check FPS again with F3. Aim for stable performance above 30 FPS for comfortable building. If still struggling, disable more shader effects or reduce render distance further.

Builder's QOL is optimized for potato PCs, so you should see improvement or minimal impact compared to vanilla.
