Adjusting Shader Settings for Better Performance
Access Shader Options
Open your pause menu and navigate to Options → Video Settings → Shaders. From here you can fine-tune BTB Back to Basics to run smoothly on your system.
Key Settings to Adjust
Shadow Quality: Lowering shadow resolution reduces the PS1 effect intensity while improving frame rate. Start here if you experience lag.
Render Distance: The retro look becomes more pronounced at shorter distances. Reducing this setting helps older computers maintain steady performance without sacrificing the visual style.
Bloom/Glow Effects: Disable or reduce bloom if your system struggles. The shader still maintains its classic aesthetic without this feature.
Ambient Occlusion: This adds depth to the retro look but costs performance. Toggle it off if needed.
Testing Your Changes
After adjusting settings, spend a few minutes in your world. Walk through different biomes and look at both bright and dark areas. The PS1 effect should remain visible even with performance tweaks. If you still experience stuttering, try reducing render distance further or lowering shadow quality more aggressively.
