Troubleshoot Visual Glitches and Performance Issues
Diagnose Common Problems
Flickering or strobing: Often caused by shadow distance settings being too high for your GPU. Reduce shadow render distance in shader options.
Washed-out colors or missing lighting: Verify colored lighting is enabled in shader settings. Check that your graphics driver is up to date.
Extreme lag or frame drops: Lower your quality preset incrementally. Disable resource-intensive features like high-resolution shadows or ambient occlusion if performance doesn't improve.
Reset to Defaults
If visual artifacts persist, reset shader settings to the default configuration for your chosen quality level, then adjust individual settings one at a time to identify the culprit.
Verify Compatibility
- Ensure you're using a compatible mod loader and Minecraft version
- Disable conflicting visual mods (other shaders, lighting mods)
- Check that your graphics card supports the required OpenGL version
Monitor Performance
Use F3 debug screen to watch frame rate and memory usage. If FPS drops below your target, reduce quality or disable bloom/reflection features. Test in different environments—caves stress shaders differently than open sky areas.
