Bowmaster Vael uses crowd control abilities to lock you in place or slow your movement. Watch for animation changes—when he plants his feet or raises his bow at an unusual angle, a crowd control attack is incoming. These attacks often precede his more dangerous ranged strikes.

Use your pre-positioned cover points immediately when crowd control activates. Sprint perpendicular to Vael's line of sight rather than directly away—his projectiles track in predictable arcs. Jump and strafe to break line-of-sight with incoming attacks.
