Create Custom Horse Armor

Adding New Horse Armor Types

Bookshelf Mod provides a framework for content creators to add custom horse armor variants without complex coding. This guide covers the player-side usage of mods built on Bookshelf that implement this feature.

Finding and Using Custom Horse Armor

Custom horse armor added through Bookshelf-dependent mods appears in your creative inventory and can be obtained through normal survival methods (crafting, loot tables, commands). To equip custom horse armor:

1. Tame a horse by repeatedly right-clicking it with an empty hand until hearts appear

2. Right-click the tamed horse to open its inventory

3. Place the custom horse armor in the armor slot (the dedicated equipment slot in the horse's inventory)

4. The armor will visually appear on your horse and provide protection

If a mod adds custom horse armor but it doesn't appear, verify the mod is properly installed alongside Bookshelf Mod. Some mods may require specific configuration files to enable certain armor variants. Check the individual mod's documentation for armor availability and any special requirements.

Custom horse armor functions identically to vanilla armor—it reduces damage taken by your horse and degrades with use.
