Change Item Colors Using Commands

Modifying Item Colors with NBT

Bookshelf Mod's ItemStack Colors feature allows you to recolor items by modifying their NBT (Named Binary Tag) data. This works on any item in your inventory.

Using the Color Command

1. Hold the item you want to recolor in your hand

2. Open the chat and use the appropriate color command provided by Bookshelf or dependent mods

3. Specify your desired color value (typically in hexadecimal format, like FF5733)

4. Press Enter to apply the color

Alternatively, you can edit NBT directly:

1. Hold the item and open chat

2. Use /data merge entity @s {SelectedItem:{tag:{display:{color:16711680}}}} (replace the number with your color value)

3. The item's color updates immediately

Color values use RGB hexadecimal notation where FFFFFF is white and 000000 is black. This feature works on leather armor, potions, and other dyeable items. Changes are permanent until modified again, and colors persist when items are dropped or stored in containers.
