Optimize Performance While Using Shaders
Reduce Render Distance
Shaders are computationally expensive. Lower your render distance from maximum to 12–16 chunks to maintain playable framerates. This is the single most effective performance tweak.
Disable Expensive Features
Open shader options and look for toggles related to:
- Volumetric lighting or god rays
- Ambient occlusion
- Reflections or water reflections
- Parallax mapping
Disabling one or more of these can significantly boost FPS without losing the core realistic lighting effect.
Lower Shadow Quality
Reduce shadow map resolution or shadow distance if the option exists. Shadows are visually important but performance-heavy.
Adjust Chunk Loading
Increase chunk loading speed in Video Settings to prevent stuttering as new terrain renders.
Monitor Frame Rate
Use F3 debug screen to watch your FPS. Aim for stable 60+ FPS for smooth gameplay. If you drop below 30, reduce render distance further or disable more shader features.
Allocate More RAM
If using a launcher, increase allocated RAM to 4–6 GB to prevent lag spikes from memory pressure.
