Configure Shadows for Different Times of Day
Understand Shadow Direction
Beyond Belief Shaders calculates shadows based on the sun's position. At sunrise and sunset, shadows are long and dramatic. At noon, they're short and directly beneath objects. This happens automatically—no manual adjustment needed.
Adjust Shadow Softness
Open shader options and find the shadow softness or penumbra setting. Higher values create softer shadow edges, mimicking diffuse light. Lower values produce sharp, defined shadows like direct sunlight.
Set Shadow Distance
Increase shadow render distance to see shadows cast far across terrain. Decrease it to reduce performance cost while keeping nearby shadows detailed.
Modify Ambient Light
Adjust ambient occlusion or ambient brightness to control how dark shadowed areas become. Higher ambient light means shadows never become completely black, simulating light bounce. Lower values create deeper, more dramatic shadows.
Test Throughout the Day Cycle
Observe how shadows change naturally. Adjust settings if certain times feel too dark or too bright.
Fine-Tune for Preference
There's no "correct" setting—choose values that match your desired mood and visual style.
