Customize sleep notification messages

Why customize messages

Default messages may not fit your server's tone or language. BetterSleeping allows you to rewrite notifications that tell players how many more people need to sleep, or when sleep requirements are met.

Editing message configuration

1. Navigate to the BetterSleeping configuration file in your plugins directory

2. Find the messages section (usually labeled messages: or similar)

3. Locate entries for sleep status updates, such as messages for "players still needed" or "night skipped"

4. Edit the text to match your preferred wording or language

5. Save the file and reload the plugin

Message variables

Most message fields support placeholders like %players_needed% or %sleeping_players% that automatically insert current numbers. Check your config file for available variables.

Broadcasting changes

After reloading, test by having players sleep. Verify your custom messages appear in chat. You can use color codes (like &c for red) to make notifications stand out.
