How Better Trident Return Works

Loyalty Returns to the Original Slot

Better Trident Return changes one small detail about the Loyalty enchantment. Normally, a thrown trident flies back to the first open inventory slot it can find. With this mod installed, the trident instead returns to the exact slot it was thrown from.

If that original slot is occupied when the trident comes back, the mod falls back to vanilla behavior and places the trident in the first available slot. So you never lose the trident — it simply prefers its old home.

This is handy for keeping your hotbar organized during combat. You can throw from a chosen slot and trust the trident to land back there instead of shuffling your inventory around.

Because the change happens server-side, only the server or singleplayer world needs the mod. Clients can connect without installing anything and the behavior still works as expected.
