How to Add Color Codes to Your Title Screen Text
Using Section Sign Codes
Minecraft formatting codes start with the section sign § followed by a single character. In the config, the default text shows this pattern: each § is immediately followed by a number or letter that sets the color for the next character. For example, ` switches to dark red, ` to gold, and so on. To color a word, place the code right before the first letter, then place another code before the next letter if you want a different color.
Building a Rainbow Effect
The default Better Title Screen text alternates a different code before every single letter, which produces the rainbow look. Copy that pattern: write § plus a code, then one letter, then repeat. This is tedious by hand, so many players type the plain word first and then insert codes between letters.
Practical Tips
Formatting codes are case-sensitive in some editors, so keep them lowercase where the default uses lowercase. Do not add spaces between the code and the letter, or the space itself will be colored and the letter will stay default white. If your text editor mangles the § symbol, save the file as UTF-8. Test in-game after each change, since a single missing code shifts every following letter's color.
