How to Build a Mob Farm Around a Disabled Spawner

Disable First, Build Second

Surround the spawner with torches to switch it off before you start construction. This stops mobs from spawning and attacking you while you dig out the room and place your collection system. With the spawner inactive, you can shape the space exactly how you want it.

Prepare the Spawn Room

Clear a room around the spawner at the height where mobs would normally spawn. Light the room so you can see, but remember that the torches adjacent to the spawner are what keep it disabled — do not remove them yet. Build your drop chute, water channel, or fall shaft below or beside the spawner, and set up your collection point at the bottom.

Activate and Test

When the farm is ready, break one of the surrounding torches to re-enable the spawner. Step into range and confirm mobs are spawning and being funneled into your kill or collection area. If nothing spawns, make sure you are close enough for the spawner to activate and that the room is dark enough for the mobs. If mobs spawn but do not move, check your water flow or drop alignment.
