Configure Online vs. Offline Time Counting

Understanding Time Tracking Modes

Better Jails Plugin offers flexibility in how sentences are served. You can choose whether jail time counts only when a player is actively playing, or whether it continues to tick down even when they're offline.

Changing the Timer Setting

1. Open your plugin's configuration file (usually in the server config folder)

2. Locate the timer or time-counting setting

3. Choose your preferred mode:

  • Online-only mode: Sentences only decrease while the player is logged in
  • Offline mode: Sentences count down continuously, even when the player is away

4. Save the configuration file

5. Restart your server or reload the plugin to apply changes

Consider your server's enforcement philosophy: online-only timing encourages players to serve their time actively, while offline counting ensures sentences complete regardless of player activity. You can adjust this setting at any time to match your community's needs.
