Identify Command Errors Using Syntax Highlighting
Understanding Colored Syntax Highlighting
Command syntax highlighting displays different parts of your command in distinct colors, helping you spot mistakes before execution.
How to read the highlighting:
1. Type your command into the console input field
2. Observe the color coding as you type:
- Different command components appear in distinct colors
- Valid syntax elements display in standard colors
- Problematic or unrecognized parts may appear differently
3. Review the highlighted command before pressing Enter
Catching Common Mistakes
Syntax highlighting helps you identify:
- Misspelled command names
- Missing or extra spaces between arguments
- Incorrect argument order
- Unmatched brackets or quotes
Before executing any complex command (especially those affecting player data or world settings), take a moment to review the color coding. If something looks visually inconsistent or "off," re-examine that section. This visual feedback prevents failed commands and reduces the need to troubleshoot why a command didn't work as expected.
