How to Hide the HUD Without Losing Track of Your Health and Hunger
Hiding the HUD is great for immersion, but losing sight of your health and hunger bars mid-fight or while exploring is risky. The mod's intermediate state helps, but you still need a strategy for staying alive with the UI off.
Practical approaches
- Use the intermediate state, not the full hide. Your held item stays visible, which gives you a constant visual anchor and reminds you which tool or weapon is active.
- Toggle back frequently. Press F1 to cycle back to the visible state whenever you enter combat, take fall damage, or start sprinting long distances. The cycle is fast enough to do mid-action.
- Watch audio and visual cues. With the HUD hidden, rely on the damage sound, the red screen vignette, and the hunger shake animation to know when something is wrong.
- Keep food in a fixed hotbar slot. Since the hotbar is hidden, memorize the slot number so you can eat without looking.
When to avoid hiding
Do not stay in a hidden state while fighting bosses, navigating the Nether, or exploring near lava. The intermediate state is safer than the full hide, but neither shows your health, so toggle back before risky moments.
