Get the Best Water Reflections and Lighting

Choose the Right Preset

Not all seven shaders in this collection prioritize reflections equally. Test each one near large bodies of water—oceans, lakes, or rivers. Look for presets where the water clearly mirrors the sky and clouds. These tend to have the most advanced reflection systems.

Position Yourself for Maximum Effect

Stand at water level or slightly above it, facing the sun or a bright sky. Reflective water is most noticeable when light is strong and the camera angle is shallow (looking across the water rather than straight down).

Adjust Lighting Direction

Visit your world at different times of day. Morning and evening light creates more dramatic shadows and reflections than noon. If your shader supports time of day or sun angle settings, experiment with these to enhance the cinematic effect.

Combine with World Settings

Enable fancy graphics in your world settings for better cloud rendering, which makes water reflections more impressive. Avoid using resource packs that replace water textures, as they may conflict with shader reflections.
