What Bedrodium Does

Bedrodium is a small performance mod that targets the bedrock layer. Normally, every face of every bedrock block is rendered, including the sides you can never actually see. Bedrodium removes those invisible faces and only draws them when they become necessary, cutting down the number of polygons the game has to render.

The optimization works differently depending on the dimension. In the normal world, the bottom layer of bedrock polygons is deleted. In the Nether, both the bottom and top bedrock layers are optimized.

Who It Helps

Because fewer polygons are drawn each frame, the rendering load drops. Players on weaker computers tend to notice the biggest benefit, since bedrock sits at the edges of the world where it is rarely in view anyway.

Notes

This is a single-purpose mod: it changes how bedrock is rendered and nothing else. It does not add items, blocks, or recipes, so it can be dropped into a world without affecting gameplay.
