Optimize Lighting in Dark Areas and Caves

Understand the Lighting System

BCU Shades Shaders enhances Minecraft's vanilla lighting with realistic ambient light and shadow depth. Caves and underground areas receive improved contrast between light sources and shadows.

Improve Underground Visibility

Place torches and lanterns strategically—the shader will render their light more realistically, creating natural falloff. Avoid over-lighting; the shader's ambient occlusion makes shadows more visible, so fewer torches feel brighter.

Adjust Ambient Light Settings

In the shader options, look for Ambient Light or Global Illumination sliders. Increasing these values brightens shadowed areas without adding light sources. This is useful for caves where you want visibility without placing excessive torches.

Use Colored Light Sources

The shader responds well to different light colors. Combine warm torches with cooler lanterns to create atmospheric underground bases. Glowstone and amethyst clusters will appear more vibrant under this shader's lighting model.
