Detect Player Mouse Actions in a Datapack
Understanding Mouse Action Predicates
The mod adds predicates that detect when players perform specific mouse actions: attacking, picking items, using items, and screen interactions. These predicates work within player advancement and loot table conditions.
Implementing Detection
1. Create a predicate file in your datapack's predicates folder
2. Use the mouse action predicate type to target the specific action you want to detect (attack, pick, use, or screen action)
3. Reference this predicate in an advancement or conditional command
4. Trigger a function or command when the predicate evaluates true
Practical Applications
Use attack detection to trigger visual feedback when players swing weapons. Item pick detection works for custom inventory interactions. Item use predicates fire when players activate items like bows or shields. Screen actions detect general UI interactions. Chain these predicates with other conditions—like checking player location or held item—to create context-sensitive responses that enhance gameplay feedback without modifying core mechanics.
