Enable Ray Tracing and See the Difference
Activating the Shader
Once installed through Iris, Basic RTX appears in your shader list. Open the pause menu, navigate to Options → Video Settings → Shaders, and select Basic RTX from the available shaders. The shader activates immediately.
What to Look For
After enabling Basic RTX, move into a space with mixed light and shadow—like standing near a window or under trees at sunset. You'll notice:
- Soft shadows cast by blocks appear more natural and less harsh than vanilla
- Light bouncing off surfaces creates subtle color bleeding (e.g., light reflecting off grass onto nearby stone)
- Real-time updates as you move or the sun rotates
Try standing in a canyon or forest to see how light filters through gaps and bounces between surfaces. The effect is most visible during sunrise and sunset when light angles are extreme. Vanilla textures remain unchanged—the shader only modifies how light interacts with them.
If the effect seems subtle, check your monitor brightness and try different times of day or weather conditions.
