Bad Packets Mod: What It Does and When You Need It

A Compatibility Layer, Not a Standalone Mod

Bad Packets Mod is a technical library mod. On its own, it changes nothing in your game — there are no new blocks, items, or mechanics to interact with. Its entire purpose is to let other mods communicate across different modding platforms.

Normally, a client and server running the same mod on different platforms can struggle to exchange packets. Bad Packets provides an API that mod developers can integrate so their Fabric and Forge versions can talk to each other. This is useful when a server runs one platform and a player's client runs another.

It is important to understand the limits. Bad Packets does not automatically make every mod compatible across platforms. Only mods whose developers have deliberately used its API will benefit. It also works alongside frameworks such as Architectury.

If a mod you want to use lists Bad Packets as a required dependency, install it. Otherwise, it will simply sit there doing nothing.
