How to Identify Baby Axolotls in Buckets

Baby vs. Adult Textures

Baby axolotls are easy to confuse with adults once they are scooped into a bucket, since the default icon gives no age information. This mod adds distinct textures for baby axolotls, so a bucket holding a juvenile looks different from one holding a fully grown axolotl.

Checking Age Before You Breed or Trade

1. Breed two axolotls or find a naturally spawned baby in a lush cave.

2. Use a water bucket on the baby to pick it up.

3. Hover the bucket in your inventory: the icon now shows the baby variant.

4. Keep baby buckets separate from adult buckets so you do not accidentally release a juvenile into a display tank.

This is useful when you are running an axolotl farm and want to track growth stages, or when you are trading buckets and need to confirm you are handing over an adult. Since the mod only changes the icon, the axolotl inside still ages normally once released. Pair this with the variant textures to know both the color and the age of every axolotl you are carrying at a glance.
