Optimize Performance While Keeping Quality High
Identify Performance Bottlenecks
Check your FPS in different environments — caves, forests, and open sky. If you're dropping frames, the shader settings may need tuning rather than disabling the shader entirely.
Reduce Shader Load Strategically
Inside shader settings, lower these without losing the painted aesthetic:
- Shadow resolution — medium settings often look nearly identical to high
- Bloom radius — smaller bloom still gives the fantasy glow with less processing
- Ambient occlusion detail — reduces computation in shadowed areas
- Reflection quality — if water reflections are enabled, dial this back
Monitor Frame Rate
Use F3 (or your debug screen) to watch FPS while adjusting. The mod is designed to stay fast, so if you're below your target FPS, shader tweaks should recover it. If not, check your render distance and other Minecraft video settings — those often matter more than shader intensity.
