Troubleshoot Missing or Weak Shadows

Common Issues and Fixes

Shadows not visible:

• Confirm Authentic Shadows is in your Active packs list (not just available)
• Move it to the top position above all other resource packs
• Restart your world completely

Shadows look too faint:

• Lower your Brightness setting in Video Options
• Ensure Smooth Lighting is enabled
• Visit darker areas (caves, forests) where contrast is stronger

Shadows disappeared after updating:

• Reinstall Authentic Shadows to ensure compatibility with your current Minecraft version
• Clear your resource pack cache by deleting the shadercache folder in your .minecraft directory
• Reactivate the pack

Verify Game Settings

Check that you haven't accidentally disabled features that shadows depend on:

• Smooth Lighting must be ON
• Graphics should be set to Fancy (not Fast)
• Brightness should not be maxed out

If shadows still don't appear after these steps, the pack may be incompatible with your current game version. Check that you're using a supported Minecraft version for the pack.
