Find and Observe Northern Lights
Where to Look
Northern lights appear exclusively in freezing biomes at night. Look for snowy plains, ice spikes, frozen oceans, and similar cold-climate areas. The lights won't spawn in warm biomes regardless of time of day.
Optimal Viewing Conditions
Best setup for watching:
- Travel to a cold biome before sunset
- Find an open area with minimal tree cover—mountains and frozen plains offer unobstructed views
- Clear skies work best; rain or storms may obscure the display
What to expect:
- Glowing aurora borealis in purple, green, and pink colors
- Lights dance and shimmer across the night sky
- The display is purely visual—no gameplay mechanics tied to it
- Multiple colors may appear simultaneously
Photography Tips
Bring a bed to set your spawn point in a cold biome, then return nightly to watch. The lights are rare events, so patience is required. Position yourself on high ground for the clearest view of the sky. Consider building a small observation platform or tower to maximize your viewing angle.
