How to Find and Tame Your First Prairie Dog

Where to Look

Prairie dogs spawn naturally in plains and meadow biomes during the day. Search open grassy areas and sandy terrain—you'll spot them standing upright on their hind legs. They're most active during daylight hours, so explore during the day for the best chance of finding them.

Taming Steps

1. Approach slowly to avoid startling the prairie dog

2. Hold any food item in your hand (they're not picky about the type)

3. Right-click the prairie dog to feed it

4. Repeat feeding until hearts appear and the prairie dog is tamed

Once tamed, your prairie dog will have a collar and follow you around. You can now set its behavior mode and keep it as a loyal pet.
